Hyderabad
has in the past decade become of India's
shining examples of supportive governments
and liberal policies. These have transformed
a low profile city into one of the leading
ones for businesses from around the world
to invest in. The city infrastructure has
progressed at a faster pace than any other
Indian city and the city has expanded and
transformed itself into a bustling business
centre and preferred location for information
technology, software, business process outsourcing
and bio-technology. Volvo created a surprise
by deciding to set up its manufacturing
facility in Hyderabad. Real estate in Hyderabad
presents one of the strongest growth opportunities
in the country.
Hyderabad is an old city that is known for
its cuisine, pearls and historic landmarks
including the Charminar, Golconda Fort and
Nizam's Palace. It is also a city that has
become synonymous with good progress and
urban development, a dynamic government
and strong growth of information technology,
bio-technology, pharmaceutical and business
process outsourcing industries.
Hyderabad has also been
location for several decades to leading
defense and research laboratories and pharmaceutical
companies. Pharmaceutical contract manufacturing
and generic drug manufacturing have been
pioneered from Hyderabad and the city continues
to have a fair share of this industry.
While manufacturing was
not very successful in Hyderabad despite
the presence of Bharat Heavy Electricals,
Central Institute for Tool Design and the
failed Allwyn Motors attempt at automobile
manufacturing, the recent plans of Volvo
to establish a manufacturing facility at
Hyderabad will offer a strong boost and
improve prospects.
The city comprises of twin
cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad that
are joined seamlessly and are on either
side of the large Hussain Sagar lake that
forms a critical landmark for the city.
The city has its old and modern areas and
has also expanded into neighbouring regions
with modern architecture and planning.
Hyderabad has drawn limited
tourism inspite of having landmarks like
Charminar, Salar Jung Museum, Nizam's Palace
and Golconda fort. There has also not been
concerted efforts to improve this and make
it an attractive destination for Indian
and global tourists.
Hyderabad however has had
very proactive government that is very business
driven and have in recent years helped transform
the city from an almost non-entity into
one of the leading Indian cities and a forerunner
for information technology, software and
outsourcing. While its Chief Minister NT
Rama Rao was instrumental in the eighties
in moving Hyderabad to a strong place of
pride for Telugu and Andhra Pradesh tradition
and culture and improving the cultural and
film industries there, in the nineties another
Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu with his
strong penchant for information technology
made Hyderabad a well known global name
with the monicker Cyberabad. The new leadership
continues to support these growth initiatives
and are focussing on development of infrastructure,
city planning and the establishment of businesses
that will fuel the city's growth.
